If you are looking to get your books on the shelves in bookstores and
not
looking to market yourself, then WE ARE NOT for you. Triskaideka Books
is very
small and funded by one person. Mass market publishing is an area we
can’t
step into yet. It is our goal for the future. Your book (if accepted)
will be
edited (you have had it professional edited already, right, or at least
paid a
Uni/college Grammar-Nazi student to go through it? I hope you are aware
that
“self editing just doesn’t cut it these days“). We will design a cover
and the book will be available at all major channels in both e-book
(Kindle,
Kobo, Sony, iPad, etc, including phones with the right app installed)
and print
(paperback and hardback) form.
*End of Update.
1. Any short stories, books, or other work product submitted to this
site
remain your property, you own the copyright. All works will be
protected by
international copyright law. Triskaideka Books purchases worldwide
print and
electronic rights for a period of one (1) year for short stories (in
anthologies) and two (2) years for novels/single author collections.
Contracts
can be cancelled or renewed after this period by agreement between
author and
publisher.
2. There will be a few limitations on the content of stories accepted.
Triskaideka Books is the final arbitrator of what is acceptable.
• Adult content is permissible within the discretion of Triskaideka
Books.
• Racism/sexism/bigotry is not allowed at all. However in saying that,
we
will not restrain your writing. If you have characters with these
traits, that
is acceptable. A story is a work of fiction. All other forms of “hate”
material are not allowed and your story will not be accepted.
• No sexual material containing children will be accepted.
• No music lyrics,
quotes or any material that YOU DO NOT OWN, no exceptions.
Create your own lyrics.
3. By submitting to Triskaideka Books you, the author, accept the
following
additional terms. The term: 'site' reflects this website and
Triskaideka Books
as a whole.
• This site holds no responsibility for your work.
• This site holds no liability should your story be ill-received by the
audience, or should you come into any trouble because of it.
• This site is not responsible for the promotion of your work, nor is
it
liable should your product become temporarily unavailable.
• Triskaideka Books may or may not accept your submission, and it may
be
rejected at any time at our discretion.
• This site holds no responsibility should banshees infest your home
due to
use of this service.
• This site holds no responsibility should its use create any damages
for
loss of profits, goodwill, data or other intangible losses. This site
is
available “as is” with no warranty.
• This site maintains a strict privacy policy that must be abided by
should
your work be accepted. The privacy policy is available by clicking the
link
below.
4. By submitting to Triskaideka Books you, the author, accept these
rules by
default even should you have not read this document because you have
been
notified that these terms must be read and accepted before submission.
A word on marketing, submitting and royalties.
On a side note, please know that we are very small and just starting
out on
this publishing venture. We will market your work the best we can using
all our
resources to do so. Your success is our success. But please be aware
that your
success is also your responsibility. As with any publisher these days,
the
writers need to market their work. And we expect nothing less.
If you are not prepared to market until your eyes bleed, then we don’t
want
to see any of your work. Simple as that.
Why are we so hard-line on the marketing front? Because our author
payment
system is very awesome. We will offer a contract for each novel that
will state
royalties of 50% of all
monies
earned
(Kindle, e-Pub, mobi, html, pdf, text, Sony reader, Palm, iPhone). Statements
will be twice a year via email. Payment will be made via Paypal only at
this
time.
By marketing, we mean A LOT MORE than a single line on your blog or a
140
character tweet. We would like to see a semblance of a marketing plan.
Just
some of your rough ideas are fine, we are not asking for a 5 page, 3
month / 6
month detailed outline.
If you have some ideas you think might work, then we are more than
willing to
consider your work.
A word on rejections
If we reply to you with a “thanks but no thanks” email, please note
this is
not a reflection on you as a person, or on you as a writer. It just
means we
weren’t moved to engage in this project and it might be better suited
with
another publishing house.
Rejections are hard to take, especially on novels, hence a thick skin
is
required. We thank you for considering our publishing house for your
work, and
hope that you will think of us in the future.
A word on agents
Agented or un-agented submission are welcome. We doubt an agent would
submit a
writer to us as we don’t offer advances at the moment. Agents are all
about
the money in writing and Triskaideka Books is all about the art of
story.
